Glossary


Frequently used concepts and terms in conjunction with OPTIMUS Products.

Document: a related series of pages in PDF format (Example: January Customer Invoices.) Documents may or may not be organized into statements. When you perform any type of search, your goal is to return one or more documents (statements), or one or more pages from within those documents, which satisfy the terms of your search.

Document Management Software (DMS):
controls and organizes documents throughout an enterprise. DMS may incorporate all or parts of the following components: document and content capture, workflow, document repositories, COLD/ERM and output systems as well as information retrieval systems.

Keyword:
part of entering criteria for the production process and subsequently become a choice on the Search Criteria tab. A Keyword specifies what type of information you are searching for. Available Keywords, such as Name, Account Number, SSN or Date, vary from report to report.

Legacy Print Streams: data produced from a long existing application or computer system which a company has already invested considerable time and money.

Moderator:
a word that when added to search criteria either indicates that you are searching for something that matches both the first line AND the subsequent line, or that you would like search results that contain either the first line OR the subsequent line. Available Moderators are: and, or.
 
NAS/SAN-Based Archival:  Network-attached storage (NAS) device or storage area networks (SAN) are dedicated to file sharing or “static” data storage.

Operator: part of entering criteria on the Search Criteria tab, an Operator describes how the value you enter is related to the information you want to find. Available Operators are: Starts with, does not start with, equal to, not equal to, less than, less than and equal to, greater than, greater than or equal to. For example, a search on (Keyword) Name (Operator) Equals (Value) Johns will return only the name Johns, whereas, a search using (Keyword) Name (Operator) Starts with (Value) Johns will return results including Johns, Johnson, and Johnston.

Portable Document Format (PDF): an open standard file format created by Adobe Systems in 1993 for document exchange. PDF is a fixed-layout format used for representing two-dimensional documents in a manner independent of the application software, hardware, and operating system.

Report: a category or grouping of documents of the same kind (e.g. invoices, statements or checks) assembled by the data provided; e.g. all telephone invoices for customers in a specific zip code area for the month of May). Reports may contain one or more documents or may simply be collections of pages.

Relational Database Management System (RDMS): a set of software programs that controls the organization, storage, management, and retrieval of data (or objects) in a database.
